Not my kind of bacon

From time to time, I enjoy trying things slightly outside of my norm so I was pretty interested in testing this Butterball Apple wood Smoked Turkey Bacon for free in return for my honest review just to see what it was like. Unfortunately, it was a pretty big let down for me. My biggest issue with it was the texture. I tried cooking it in a skillet to get it crispy, but it just ended up being kind of rubbery and, I don't know, mushy I guess, not matter what I did. Honestly, the texture is almost indescribable and not in a good way. It's weird and spongy and does not give the satisfying crispness you would expect from bacon. The flavour was also a letdown. I found the taste to be pretty bland and almost a bit artificial. I definitely didn't get the Apple wood smoke it claimed it would taste like. I tried using this bacon in a few different recipes just to make sure it wasn't something I messed up. In BLTs it was soggy, in broccoli salad it was mush and trying to crumble it for a salad was a nightmare because it just fell apart into weird little clumps I just cant recommend this one unfortunately. Shrinks a lot when cooked

I found the Butterball Applewood Smoked Turkey Bacon to be packaged well. There is a lot of liquid inside the packaging which I believe to be included in to the displayed weight of the product. The package is not resealable. The bacon slices are thin but wide and long when raw. When cooked I found the bacon to shrink almost 25% from its original size. The flavor I found to be very mid and could barely taste a smokey apple wood flavor. The only plus about this bacon in my opinion is that it has sliced meat in it rather than pulverized meat, evident by the meat threads in the bacon. Overall, I still prefer the original flavor.

Not bacon, more ham

I'm always on the lookout for breakfast alternatives to the traditional offering. The Butterball Applewood Smoked Turkey Bacon is comprised of 100% turkey and is a lower far alternative to regular bacon. However, I find the term bacon misleading as this product tastes more like a ham than bacon. It's true that it is lower far but it doesn't do anything to mimic the fat flavour that is missing. One of the biggest shortfall is as the product cools it becomes very leathery to eat and the texture is unappealing. I may be expecting too much but I rather eat traditional bacon or eat something else entirely without trying to substitute.

Shoe leather

The slices were so thin that it essentially turned into jerky really fast. Flavour was okay but nothing I would want to eat again. And especially for the price I wouldn't buy again

Was okay, didn’t really like it

I cooked it like I usually do but it didn’t taste as good. I wouldn’t buy it again as i didn’t like it. Even in the air fryer it didn’t cook very well. It tasted rubbery.

Not my favorite bacon

Unfortunately, we weren’t big fans of the turkey bacon. While it was a healthier option with no greasiness, we found it quite chewy and felt it didn’t quite match the flavour of traditional bacon.
