This Max & Ruby board book is part of a newly released series featuring characters from the popular TV series and original books by Rosemary Wells. The TV show is very popular with preschoolers and written in a warm and amusing style that makes it more than tolerable for parents to watch with their children - no small feat indeed!

This particular book shows rascally Max with his favorite things, from big sis Ruby to Screaming Alien Gorillas. The pictures are fun and set against primary-color backdrops that grab attention (this is important if you have your own Screaming Alien Gorilla in human form on your lap). Fans of the show will easily recognize Max's toys and activities - even my daughter long grown out of Max & Ruby thought it was cute.

On the downside, kids who've never seen the show may not be as interested. We don't get this show on peasant vision at home (read here: cheapo basic cable), and so my sons have never seen it. They like it well enough as a little book to flip through, but don't connect with it in the same way that someone familiar with the series would. At least it's a board book and virtually indestructible, which provides as much amusement or more than the content inside.

If you have a Max & Ruby fan in your family, I would certainly recommend this book and the others in the series!
