I think these are fantastic! I was getting a cold sore at night so the next day I went and bought them. The cold sore that had already started did not get any bigger yay! And then a new one started.....I got the patch on it immediately and within two uses of the patch it was completely gone! I don't find it hurts at all to remove them (maybe the previous person has an extremely low pain tolerance) and will definitely be keeping this product in my medicine cabinet all the time.
Oh I did forget to mention that yes you can see them but it's not that bad a lot better than an ooozing cold sore in my opinion.
Over the past week I tried the Polysporin Cold Sore Healing patches and wasn't impressed. I was unfortunate enough to get two cold sores, one on my bottom lip at the corner & one above my lip below my nose. Tried the patch on both - the patch on the upper lip was quite obvious and was I very self concious. The patch on my lower lip in the corner peeled away & was also obvious. Applying makeup was useless as it made it stand out even more! Applying the patches was a frustrating procedure (I ruined at least 3 out of a pack of 15) and unless applied perfectly, there were very visable creases in the patch and once it's stuck, it's stuck! Pulling off the patch was painful & I was concerned about the extra aggravation caused by it sticking so well. The only aspect I was happy about was the protection the patch provided against the wind & sun as I skied. I won't be buying them again.
I went to a Polysporin beauty dinner recently and it was very discret in what they were going to present and once we got settled they announced the product focus, Polysporin's Cold Sore Healing Patch! Pre-dinner I was pretty shocked, but their chemist from Johnson & Johnson taught us all a lot about Cold Sores, the virus that triggers the lesions and how the Polysporin Cold Sore Healing Patch is meant to work. It was VERY educational.
How the patch works; It a thin, circular, tape-like patch that you place very gently on the lesion ensuring you allow the patch to fall in the grooves of the cold sore and your lip. Do not place it on your lesion tight like a band-aid. The patch has a two-way air flow so your lesion can heal naturally, blocking out all bacteria but allowing the lesion to breath and your body to healing it naturally in it's optimal environment. The patch doesn't hide the lesion but it sure makes it way less noticeable and clean compared to the application of a cream.
It was a beauty dinner theme because Johnson & Johnson had a make-up artist there to show us how to cover up the patch with make-up! After applying the patch as per the instructions, you can use a lip liner and lipstick to cover the patch and move on with your day and night :) NOTE: Do not use a lipstain or gloss, lip liner and lipstick are the best for proper coverage.
