Believe the hype. Colborne Lane deserves every bit of praise it has ever received. Chef Claudio Aprile is a genius. From the first bite of the tuna sashimi salad (tuna sashimi tartare ginger caviar frozen soy sauce powder radish yuzu crispy garlic shiso cauliflower), I was ready to run down to the kitchen and propose. I can't really explain it except to say that there are so many complimentary flavours in each bite it is positively orgasmic.

The seared scallops are served hot with frozen pebbles of creme fraiche that melt in your mouth. The beef my husband ordered was so good, I broke down after 2 months of not eating red meat to steal a few bites. Totally worth it. I ordered the veggie dish, which was like a crispy rolled ratatouille with a tomato jam. Fascinating. Every dish that came out of that kitchen was superb and over the top. The way Aprile blends flavours is unlike anything I've ever experienced.

The ambiance is very hip and stylish. It's intimate and romantic, yet open. The decor is totally original. The service is wonderful from the moment you are greeted at the door until you leave. We left in awe.

Colborne Lane is pricey but worth it. There are a plethora of restaurants in the city that charge more and aren't nearly as good. Expect to spend about $200 a couple.
