I got my first tattoo at New Tribe about 13 years ago (plus or minus a few years) and I love it! It is of a drawing my friend made, which they copied and traced onto my back. I went there with a few friends for moral support, I was the first one of my group to get a tattoo done, but they were not allowed in with me. I was a little freaked out that I would have to go through it alone, but luckily the artirts was amazing and made me feel super relaxed and at ease the whole time. I've since had a second tattoo out of country but will definately be going back for my next 2 - just saving up some money for them since they are a bit pricy there.
Just got my nose pierced from there. Mind you, it may be a small piercing, but considering I have had bad experience from a previous nose piercing gone wrong, I came ready with questions & was quite nervous. However, the piercer I had (Blair), was fantastic! He was friendly, professional, and answered all of my endless questions. The piercing took no longer than 10 seconds, and the after-care instructions he told me were informative.
The only "iffy" part would be the price; it is a bit too steep, but otherwise, I would totally recommend this place. Mainly due to the courteous and professional staff members. They know what they are doing, so you know you are in good hands.
I have been to New /tribe on several occasions to build a custom memorial tattoo sleeve on my right arm dedicated to my tiny angel (miracle baby) that was called home to the lord on August 1,2008 at only 33 weeks along in my pregnancy, this was the most fitting way of paying tribute to her, I worked with Paul Samplonius and yes he does charge a fair amount but it is custom work, so many people are awestruck by the bright bold colors he used, I will say I did my research before going there and he does have 14 years experience and since this was a very personal tattoo, I would not let anyone else, amateur to work on me, and he was very supportive and very helpful to give me a tattoo beyond my expectations,
I most certainly recommend him as a professional and very great/talented artist. And plus the staff are vey friendly and the studio is immaculate .
I've been to New Tribe a number of times, both for myself (a couple of piercings and a fair sized tattoo) and to hold the hands of squeemish friends. I'm always so impressed with their standards and level of service that when my mother decided to get a tattoo (a small breast cancer ribbon) I knew that New Tribe was the only option. The artist was fantastic, putting my mum at ease and answering all her questions. I don't know a single person that has not been pleased with the work they have had done there.
I would recommend New Tribe to anyone and everyone.
I had a tattoo done at New Tribe about 4 weeks ago, it's a 5" long and 2" wide tattoo (written words) on my upper arm.
Other than New Tribe's clean and big location, there is nothing else good to say about this place. My 5" x 2" tattoo which took approximitely 45 minutes to complete cost $240.
Some of the tattooed words are good, and some are crooked, out of their correct shape, and lost the "cleanliness" of the font.
I did read some good review about New Tribe prior to getting my tattoo, and that's why I chose them, so maybe I had bad luck and got a clearly less good tattoo artist. He was proud of how fast he can work and said that's the reason for charging me $240 for a 45 minute job...but in my case...FAST definitely does not mean good work. And since it was my first time getting a tattoo, I asked questions regarding things like colour, procedure and healing time, but no information was clearly given by the artist. It really seemed like a rush job, seemed like he just wanted to get it done as fast as possible so he could leave.
It is after all a permanent mark you're leaving on your body, so needless to say, you really want it to be the way you want it to be, but I clearly can't say that about the workmanship of my tattoo artist. And I definitely would not come back if I do decide for another tattoo.
I just hope people will have better experience than what I had at New Tribe.
I've had three piercings and a tattoo done at New Tribe.
I do love the set up and how clean they are, so if you're looking for that strictly, this is your shop. They are EXCELLENT in terms of demonstrating the health regs they have to follow and teaching you about aftercare.
But, the tattoo I had done was a bit overpriced for a toonie sized Kanji character compared to the other three I've had done (at other shops).
I had two positive piercing experiences there, but one that left me feeling a bit uneasy about being pierced by a male artist without anyone else in the room (which isn't allowed, generally). I don't believe that individual works there anymore, but it really soured my experience.
However, if you're looking to get pierced there, ask for John. He is the best.
I, too got my navel pierced here 2 years ago and my piercing has been doing well! Barely any problems with it, and the piercer made me feel very comfortable/ He filled me in on how to take care of it and was also very open on answering questions and encouraged me to come back if there were any problems. I am coming back here next time when I get a tattoo : )
I had my navel pierced there a few years back... clean and sanitary. They are also quick to answer any questions you may have about your piercing/tattoo. I would go back again.
I don't have a tattoo, but I have been to New Tribe for piercings. I know many people who swear by this place for tattoos. This place is expensive, but it is definitely well worth it, for the professionalism of the staff and the hygiene of the entire place. Everything here is really CLEAN. You don't have to worry about dirty needles or equipment because everything comes pre-packaged (new and clean!), and is sterilized and done with latex gloves.
If you live in Toronto and are thinking of getting a tattoo or piercing, I definitely recommend going to New Tribe! The staff are very caring, nice and talented with their designs, and you can't get a tattoo and piercing parlour that could be any more clean and safe. That's what's most important, right?
