The highest quality rat food readily available.

There are a lot of sub par rat foods out there; ones that come in the form of seed mixes that encourage unhealthy unbalanced eating, or contain far too much protein for long term adult rat consumption. Oxbow rat food is not one of these foods.

It comes in a kibble format so rats can't be picky and only eat the parts they like and I like that the protein is at 15%. Even though baby rats do need higher protein levels, I prefer to feed this food over Oxbow's food for younger rats and just supplement with high protein foods such as egg. I trust that this product is nutritionally balanced. It is corn free for people who are concerned with their rats consuming corn because of the french studies they did with GMO corn and rats growing tumors or for people concerned with potential mold and mycotoxins in corn.

Oxbow did have some issues with the palatability of this food if I recall, but I believe that later reformulations did improve the flavour. Oxbow has been very receptive of feed back from the rat keeping community and I respect that. My rats were happy to eat it. It is very expensive for how small the bag is but I trust that it is a high quality product and that makes it worth it in my eyes.

I switched over my rat food from the Martin brand to Oxbow because of the higher quality ingredients and the carefully detailed back panel on the bag which showed a lot of care for their food. After switching I noticed they had more energy, they didn't smell as bad and their coat quality improved. Oxbow still has a good animal protein meal in it as well as no fatty seeds to promote selectivity. All the kibble is the same so there's no picking and choosing.
