I was skeptical about maybelline New York Dream Velvet Foundation.....but it was awesome! the last foundation that I tried was not very good with coverage. The new Velvet Foundation has really great coverage and goes on really smoothly. I may even switch;-)
I received the product from chickadvisor.
The foundation had medium coverage and it definitely did have a very nice velvety finish. I had to wear a moisturizer under the foundation since I do have combination type skin so in order to avoid any dry patches I wore moisturizer and a primer underneath which worked great. The foundation lasted throughout the day and the coverage was just enough. The texture of the foundation feels great on your skin and shows up really well in pictures as well. Definitely will be buying this in the future.
I honestly never use liquid foundation because of the oily texture. But when I used this foundation with the sponge applicator I found it stayed on soooooo long !!!! I do recommend for combination oily skin :)
I received this product in exchange for my honest review, and I am I ever glad that I did. I am very grateful as my previous Matte foundation clung to dry patches on my combo/oily but dehydrated skin, but Maybelline's Dream Velvet foundation did NOT! I would say it Is medium coverage. On a regular day, I usually use a BB cream or light foundation and this had more coverage than my current products, which I am very happy about as it perfected my skin wonderfully for a medium coverage product, I didn't really NEED concealer or powder. One day I used the foundation without concealer and powder and the next day I used it with both concealer and foundation and I found it could be used either way. This product evens out my skin tone so much that I feel confident about the way I look with just this foundation on it's own, great for a day of just running errands for a quick and simple look.
What I really love about this product is that it does not look like foundation on my skin, it looks like your skin only much much better! It completely got rid of my unsightly pores as you can see in my photo! It had a matte finish without clinging to any dry patches (unlike my previous matte foundation). It smoothed and evened out my complexion and covered all of my redness and most discolorations while still looking natural. When I look at the photos that took (provided in review) with one side of my face having my usual BB cream and the other side with Maybelline Dream Velvet Foundation (neither side had any powder or concealer), you can immediately see that my pores are gone on the Maybelline side. Also, my skin looks tighter and younger on the Maybelline side, which I was not expecting but I was so excited about, like really excited!!
The foundation did not break down during the day. I was out and about and did the "car test." I kept checking in my car's mirror throughout the day to see if there was any product breaking down or dry patches and Maybelline Dream Velvet passed with flying colours! I had a bit of shine breakthrough after about 5 hours, but I did not look greasy, just had a bit of a healthy glow. I am combo/oily so I do normally have to touch up my T-zone from time to time, it just comes with the territory of my skin type. So far, this has been the best drugstore foundation I have tried. The way it obliterated my pores and made my skin look younger and tighter has me hooked! These are the aspects of the results that I am most excited about, as well as the fact that it looked like skin. I am not one who likes to look like I am wearing foundation. I am actually going to toss my other brand of matte foundation that clung to dry patches like crazy no matter what I did. I'm so happy to have this in my life now- so easy, so natural, and I look younger with it on! Yes, I'm excited!! Note: picture on left is BB cream alone, no powder or concealer. Picture on the right is one thin coat of Maybelline Dream Velvet Foundation, no powder or concealer. I hope you find this review and picture helpful.
I received this foundation courtesy of ChickAdvisor. Hence why I gave 5 stars for price. As soon as I got it I had to try it on. I was given the shade natural beige which is too light for me. So if you're an NC40-42 I would go a shade darker.
As for the foundation, I love the texture it's exactly as described a whipped gel formula. When placed on the face it feels light and airy. It blends out nicely using a flat top brush. The coverage is medium. When buffed into my face, it felt like I didn't have any foundation on my face which I love. It also made my skin feel very smooth velvet like which is what they claim.
A con for this foundation is that it sticks to dry patches. Well at least mine because I've read some reviews where it didn't.
This is a good foundation but it's not great. I still prefer to use my maybelline fit me.
I got to try Maybelline New York Dream Velvet Foundation courtesy of Chickadvisor. It has a neat texture of a whipped gel and drys on the skin fast so work quickly! It gave my son a velvety air brushed look and didn't crack or flake all day. My skin didn't feel dry either. It had a nice fresh feel. I would purchase this product.
I was pleasantly surprised by Maybelline New York Dream Velvet Foundation!
At this point in the year dry/combination skin is a problem for most of us and because of that, I tend to avoid matte finish makeup in the winter. I find that because I don't need a ton of coverage I often mix my usual foundation with a moisturizer for that extra boost of hydration. The Dream Velvet Foundation eliminates this necessity.
The foundation itself is gel based and leaves your skin feeling fresh and hydrated all day long. I've been wearing if for three days now and have tried it over a hydrating serum, my go to no frills coconut oil, and also a basic daytime moisturizer. It worked well over all of them and I didn't experience dryness of any sort.
The Dream Velvet Foundation was easy to apply both with and without a foundation sponge.
The formula itself is very lightweight and provides even, flawless coverage. I really don't feel like I'm wearing foundation at all and I'm loving the natural look it provides.
The other attribute that's worth noting is that it actually seems to look better as the day goes on.
I liked it when I was at home after the initial application, but I loved it when I checked it out while out in the real world.
Maybelline New York Dream Velvet Foundation has officially replaced my old foundation. I am happy to recommend it and look forward to seeing others love it as much as I do.

I'm always in the market to try a new foundation. I really haven't had too much luck using drugstore foundations especially from Maybelline. There has been so many reviews about this foundation, I had to try it out. The shade range for women of color is lacking. I picked up 90 Honey Beige hoping that this would be something closest to my shade. The consistency is almost mousse like. It's on the thicker side but it's not a heavy foundation at all. The color started off a little too pink on my skin but after it dried down a little, it wasn't as pink. The foundation gave my skin a soft matte finish. It looked almost airbrushed! It didn't settle into my lines or pores either. Throughout the day, I did get oily but that didn't bother me because I have very oily skin. The foundation lasted all day without fading or rubbing off. That's pretty good for a drugstore foundation! I just wished Maybelline & other drugstore brands would expand their color shades for not just women of color but for those with fair complexions as well.
I tested the Maybelline New York Dream Velvet Foundation in the shade Ivory. I am usually an Ivory in other shades so selected this shade. When I swatched it on my hand, it was very orange looking. It did blend out to look less orange on my face but it was still a tad darker than I would like. The shade is still wearable but if I were to purchase it in the future, I would get a shade lighter.
This foundation is thick and mousse like in texture. It does spread evenly on the skin but you may have to work quicker as it tends to dry quicker than liquid foundations. After applying this foundation, my skin felt so soft and actually velvety. I was really impressed by this quality. The foundation also feels lightweight so much so that it doesn't feel like you're wearing foundation. I found the coverage to be about medium. I have acne scars which it blurred but didn't completely hide.
I have combination skin right now with dry, normal and oily patches. I found that this foundation got a bit patchy in the oily areas on my face. This foundation is suppose to have a soft-matte effect but I didn't really find it mattifying. In fact, the first day I wore this foundation my sister commented on how nice my skin looked and how it looked dewy. It may not have been matte for me but it certainly kept my skin hydrated.
Overall, I would probably buy this foundation in the future if there was a great sale on it and I could find it in a shade lighter.
I received this product free of charge to test courtesy of Chick Advisor.
Ohh, what a gorgeous product! I absolutely love this foundation. It's like whipped cream for the face! It's a soft matte foundation, which I love, compared to oily based foundations. It applies very easily, it's smooth, blends perfectly with the skin. It's long lasting, easily stays on for the whole day without smudging or "falling off". There's no need to reapply or touch-up. The Dream Velvet Foundation leaves your skin glowing all day and provides exceptional hydration. I'm very much in love with it and so glad I was chosen to try it out. This was my first time trying out a Maybelline product but it definitely won't be the last. I will recommend the foundation to my friends, who are all make-up junkies, like me. I have an important event to attend this weekend and I'm so glad this foundation arrived in time. I will make a grand velvet-y entrance and glow like a star!
