PS3 is the only game console in the household. DVD, USB, BLU-RAY, NETFLIX, etc... compatible, it's amazing. Never hd an issue with it since I bought it. When I upgrade will be PS4, sticking with the Play Station family.

Love this. My husband and I play on our PS3 all the time. See no need to switch to a PS4 as they are not backwards compatible and you have to pay for the year, not to mention buy all new games. Great graphics.

We love our ps3. We purchased it because I wanted to be able to play a game online with some real life friends. We all use it now, myself, my husband and our three kids. We do limit the kids time with electronic games to a decent amount, but they do enjoy it.

I love my PS3!!! The games are fantastic and the console is easy to use! I love that I can use it as a DVD/Bluray player as well. The graphics have steadily improved over the lifespan of the console and you can really see how gorgeous the system plays games with The Last of Us which I found to be visually stunning. I prefer the PS3 to the Xbox 360 due to the exclusives like the Last of Us and Heavy Rain.

So far I've never been disappointed in any of Sony's consoles . Own all 3, didn't get the 4th one yet. Pretty good graphics and a lot of their games have been fun. Over all good product.

What do you think, have you tried it?

We got our PS3 shortly after they were released with the larger hard drive. It replaced our ps2 which had replaced our Playstation. It has gone in for maintenance (under warranty) once and we have had to replace the controllers twice. The first time under warranty, the second out of pocket after 4 years. Next time the machine breaks, we will upgrade to ps4. We went with the ps3 because it also plays BlueRay. I am glad we did because BlueRay far surpassed it's competition.

At this point in time, the new generation of video game consoles have all been released by the major manufacturers (Sony's PS4, Microsoft's Xbox One, and Nintendo's Wii U). While some systems easily become obsolete with the arrival of new consoles, the PS3 is unmatched in terms of its value:

    PROS:
    - incredibly large library of games that also happen to be very cheap; the best titles on the system can be found for fractions of the price of a newly released current gen. game
    - excellent media player: the PS3 has apps for Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, BBC, NHL GameCentre, NBA and MLB. It can also stream videos and music from your computer/home network
    - CHEAP. You can get a PS3 for less than $150 nowadays, cheaper if you buy one when it goes on sale, or you get it used
    - free online multiplayer; unlike the Xbox 360/Xbox One/PS4, the PS3's PlayStation Network is completely free-of-charge. You can play in a ton of games that offer online multiplayer for free without having to purchase a membership.
    - At the same time, PS Plus is a paid membership that offers exclusive perks like: FREE games EVERY month (kind of like Netflix, but the selection is more limited and changes every month), extra discounts on games when they go on sale, and exclusive access to betas and full trials of games. It's definitely worth every penny; you can honestly get PS Plus with a PS3 and not have to buy any other games. PS Plus is also cross-compatible, meaning you also get games for the PS Vita and PS4.

    CONS:
    - there is no IR sensor, so it's not compatible with universal remotes unless you buy an adaptor/dongle by Logitech
    - UI or User Interface leaves a lot to be desired (i.e. it could be better). Because this is now a console that is going on 8 years old, the user interface can seem quite clunky and laggy at times. This is because the Operating System of the PS3 evolved over the years to meet players' needs, but system hardware did not (obviously). There is not enough memory or RAM to dedicate to just the UI, so concessions had to be made to the fluidity and responsiveness of the console.
    - PlayStation Store also suffers from the hardware limitation; it looks nice though
    - No universal party chat (this is a feature on the new PS4, but requires a PS Plus membership to play online now)

All in all, the PS3 is an amazing system, and can provide thousands of hours of entertainment. It's definitely still got a few years left, and support for it won't be going away anytime soon.
