Poorly designed and unfun with quality issues

This Pellor Ring Toss game looks fun, but I'm sad to have to report that it's a big disappointment. Let's start with the positive (because there's very little) and that's the fact that the disk is made of high-quality wood that looks great. Which makes it an even bigger shame that I had issues with it arriving damaged. The problem is, they include a hanging hook, which already has partially inserted sharp nails. That way you can simply hammer the nails down and voila, hang your game, but it was packaged in a thin, plastic bag. As a result, the nails punched through during transit and scraped lines into my wood (see picture), ruining the look of the game before it had even arrived. I recommend that this hook should be bubble wrapped and placed in a small cardboard box, to prevent this in the future.

Other than that, we had problems with it as a game and frankly, it just wasn't fun. It would be fun with a few changes, that I'll detail in my review, but you can skip to 'summary' for a short run-down.

    Assembly and Design
    -----------------------------
In the box, you receive 13 gold coloured hooks, nine rings, the hanging hoop and the wooden disk. Assembly is easy, but tedious and quality problems start to show. You must attach the hooks yourself by twisting them into pre-drilled holes. It's not too difficult, though in the end it becomes pretty stiff. The problem comes in at this point. You need the hooks to be facing the same way (up) to catch the rings, but at a certain point, they become too stiff to turn more. Because it's simply a hole, you must either loosen the hooks, sometimes as much as 180 degrees or tighten them. This means the hooks are all visibly different distances from the base. To put it simply, each hook has a slightly rounded base that should sit flush against the board and in order to have them facing the right direction, many of them are sitting out from the board. Given the high price, this is actually really unacceptable and visually, just doesn't look good.

It's also pretty lazy that the numbers are all just going up by 1 and it prevents some different styles of play. It would be more interesting and exciting to have the different 13 numbers dotted around instead of in an obvious pattern.

Design-wise, the best thing about it is the wood board, which looks great (apart from the scratches detailed above) and is a hefty weight that implies it will last.

    Play
    --------------------

When it came time to play, we ran into far more problems. The hoops are a thick, heavy rubber that doesn't smell pleasant and picks up dust really easily (silicone maybe?). Because of their weight, if you stand at even a short distance from the board, with the board across from you (think darts), it's basically impossible to get them on the hooks. They drop off very quickly because of the weight and don't cut through the air well, so unless you are standing laughably close, there just isn't a game. It's a shame because with light easy to throw rings, this would be a lot of fun, but it's just so poorly designed. It feels like a ring toss game made for looks as opposed to fun.

Furthermore, there's no 'game' suggested in the actual packaging. There are some games listed on the product listing, but most of these aren't even possible. For example, one suggested game is to try and get the hoops on all numbers. But there are 13 hooks and only nine hoops. So if you choose to do this you'll have to write down the numbers, as opposed to being able to leave the hoops on and try for the 'missed' ones.

Even having nine hoops, an uneven number, means you can't split the hoops in two and play against each other, each person must play a full round, take note and then pass the hoops off. At this price, with no scorecards, note cards or anything extra included, it's pretty bleak. If you do choose to leave the hoops up and play against each other, there's no way of telling whose ring it is on the hook.

There are two ways Pellor could fix this. They could either have rings in different colours, a different colour for each one. Or alternatively, they could have ten hoops, five in one colour and five in the other, allowing for more of a team game. Regardless, the hoops should definitely be replaced by lighter, more aerodynamic hoops that would make this game actually fun.

    Summary
    --------------------
Overall, this was a game that was poorly designed and didn't work out well. The rings were too heavy, it received damage in transit due to not packaging sharp elements correctly and the only plus about it was that the wooden disk is lovely looking and good quality.

    Pros:
+ Wooden disk is heavy, good quality and varnished.
+ Comes with a hanging hook that simply must be nailed in.

    Cons:
    - Came damaged, due to hanging hook nails not being sufficiently protected (they scratched the wooden disk after piercing their bag).
    - Rings are rubber and smell bad.
    - Rings are too heavy to throw successfully, making for an unfun game.
    - Rings are an odd number, meaning you can't simply split them into two and play against each other.
    - Rings are a boring colour and would benefit from different colours or two sets of five in two different colours, for team games.
    - Number arrangement is cliche and doesn't lead to an exciting game.
    - No game suggestions, score cards, notebooks or other accessories are included in with the game, leaving it up to your imagination.
    - Expensive.
    - You must assemble/ screw in the hanging hooks by yourself.
    - They are not flush when fully screwed in, due to needing all hooks to face up. (see review for details).

Recommended: No, the high price and poor quality was disappointing. Furthermore, the game doesn't work well. In my opinion, this needs a total redesign.
