A decent review from a meat eater's perspective
I usually eat meat, so trying a jackfruit-based kebab was definitely a bit of a stretch for me. While I didn't mind it, it didn't quite hit the mark for my personal taste. However, there were several things about it that were quite impressive.
The Highlights
- Cooking and Appearance: These kebabs look great and fry up very nicely in the pan.
- Scent: The smell is actually really decent and appetizing while it's cooking.
- Texture: This was the most surprising part. The texture is good and it rips apart very much like real meat. It even looks like meat on the inside, which was a bit weird but honestly pretty cool.
The Taste
The flavor was just okay for me. As someone who eats meat regularly, the taste didn't quite appeal to me. That said, I shared some with a vegetarian friend and she absolutely loved them.
Final Verdict
If you are looking for a meat alternative that nails the "look and feel" of a kebab, this is a solid choice. If you are a dedicated meat eater, you might find the flavor lacking, but for vegetarians or those used to plant-based swaps, this seems to be a winner.

Good option for vegetarians
I don’t eat many vegetarian meals, our household likes meat and her meals, but I was intrigued to try this product because I’m always open to trying new food items and seeing if I can switch out for a healthier non-meat option. While these tasted decent, I wasn’t the biggest fan of them. I have. Bathing with textures. It was more a personal preference, but these are a great option for somebody who loves jackfruit and who loves vegetarian options. These wouldn’t be my go to, but if I was offered them I would still eat them.

Personally, Just Okay
This is my first time trying Plantropy. I’ve tried vegan meat alternatives before, and these are fairly good. These come frozen, and I did have them defrosted in my fridge for a few days. They did come out quite mushy out of the packaging and didn’t notice the ‘keep frozen’ label on the packaging. These did cook up and brown really nicely regardless. I found the texture to be just okay; some parts had more of a ‘meaty’ chew, but overall, it did have what I would call a vegan/vegetarian meat texture. It had some chew and some ‘crunchier’ bits to it. I was not expecting these kebabs to be as spiced as they were. Out of the package, they do smell spiced, and they tasted spicier than I was expecting. I personally like spicy food, but if you were not expecting these to be spicy, then I would consider them mildly spicy. I also personally found these to be quite salty on their own, and they do have quite a high salt content per kebab according to their nutrition facts. My partner put the kebab in a wrap and it gave the wrap a nice flavor and the veggies, sauce and wrap helped to even out the salt level. Overall, they were fine for a quick and easy meal, but not my favourite. I would try some of Plantropy’s other products but I don’t see myself purchasing these again.

Good substitute, but not our favouritr
Tried these JackFruit kabobs as an alternative to the typical meat kabobs I usually cook. It was met with mixed reactions. Little too spicy for the Littles, but the grownups enjoyed. I loved how quick they were to cook on a busy night.

Tasty and Convenient, but Needs a Little more
I was curious to try the Plantropy Jackfruit Kebabs as a plant-based alternative, and they turned out to be a pretty solid option! The texture of the jackfruit was surprisingly meaty and satisfying, especially when crisped up well on the pan or grill. The seasoning was flavorful with a nice mix of spices, though I did find it leaned a bit heavy on the cumin, which may not be for everyone.
What knocked off a couple points for me was the portion size and overall balance. The kebabs are on the smaller side, and they could use a touch more moisture or a dipping sauce to really shine. They’re great as part of a larger meal, like in wraps or on a salad, but not super filling on their own.
All in all, they’re a tasty, convenient option for a quick vegan meal or snack—just not quite mind-blowing. I'd buy them again, but probably with a plan to dress them up a bit.

Jackfruit, but make it dinner ✌🏻🍽️
Plantropy jackfruit kebabs are:
🌱 cholesterol free
🌱 high fibre
🌱 soy, gluten and sulphite free
🌱100% vegan
These kebabs are quick and easy to prepare; whether you steam, grill or fry them! We even put a couple in the air fryer, which I recommend! As a mom of two littles, I love the idea of plant based dishes that I can cook in 2-3 minutes. I was surprised there was no mention that it packed some heat, as my family noticed it as well. Although the seasoning and spice was a bit overpowering for my personal taste I’d love to try more flavours.
