21 Jump Street is a 2012 comedy film starring Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum. It's very loosely based on the '80s television series of the same name, and even features a small but memorable cameo by Johnny Depp.
The story is about two rookie cops, Schmidt and Jenko, who join the Jump Street operation and go undercover as high school students after an illegal and lethal drug has begun sweeping a local campus.
I was born in '89 and never had the chance to see the original TV series, however I'm sure many liberties were taken in this adaptation. That being said, this is a surprisingly hilarious film. I don't find too many modern, R-rated American comedy films to be very funny because the humour is often too immature for my tastes. While this is definitely immature in some aspects, some of the jokes really are laugh-out-loud funny. Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum have such great on-screen chemistry. You can picture the two of them being good friends in real life.
I don't know if this will go down in the history books as some sort of comedy classic, but I would say it's definitely worth a watch. It's one of the more entertaining comedy films of the past decade.
The film is rated R and has a running time of 110 minutes.
This movie is funny, but some of the parts are just too immature to even be funny. I was watching it with my parents and a few parts were kind of awkward to watch with them. It's an ok movie, had a few good laughs.
Easy to watch and funny movie. Guys have a good chemistry going on. Movie that allows you to relax and not think too hard - sometimes thats what we all need.
Very clearly a film meant to humour the young teenage audience. It is very funny in a dumb humour kind of way. There is definitely some NSFW content though, so not for kids
This movie is hilarious ! I highly recommend for a good date night :)
A fun adventure based on the original series of the 80s (starring Johnny Depp). This version has Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum. Who cares if there's a plot - it has Channing Tatum!
Trying to prove themselves as competent policemen, the boys join the Jump Street program and go undercover to investigate a high-school drug ring and become best friends in the process.
