When we first meet 14-year-old Susie Salmon, she is already in heaven. This was before milk carton photos and public service announcements, she tells us; back in 1973, when Susie mysteriously disappeared, people still believed these things didn't happen. In the sweet, untroubled voice of a precocious teenage girl, Susie relates the awful events of her death and her own adjustment to the strange new place she finds herself. It looks a lot like her school playground, with the good kind of swing sets. With love, longing, and a growing understanding, Susie watches her family as they cope with their grief, her father embarks on a search for the killer, her sister undertakes a feat of amazing daring, her little brother builds a fort in her honor and begin the difficult process of healing. In the hands of a brilliant novelist, this story of seemingly unbearable tragedy is transformed into a suspenseful and touching story about family, memory, love, heaven, and living.

Absolutely loved this incredible book. A story about a young fourteen year old girl who was murdered, interestingly told from her perspective afterwards. Definitely a compelling read, and a realistic view of what families go through after dealing with a loss in the family.
This was such a sad but terrific book. As a parent it pulls on your heart but the storyline is great. The author does a great job in describing the setting and the characters. I was happy i really the book before watching the movie as the book for into more detail (but i still enjoyed the movie as well). I would recommend this book
I had seen the movie prior to reading the book. I really liked the movie, so I knew I would like the book. I was right! It's such a touching story line and breaks your heart and warms it all at the same time!
I admitt it took a few pages to get into the book and than it grabs you. WOW! The story revolves around a young girl murdered and her remains can't be found, like the killer. She watches her family and what could of been her life from above. She watches the turmoil and stress the murder takes on her family. There is a girl from the same school that took a great interest in her death and they both realize they can feel each others presence. This is a must, must read. You really feel, thanks to the details, the sorrow,, the anxiety and the tension of the murder. With her viewing her life you almost wonder in the end if that is what heaven would be like. Give it a shot!
