One of the best stories ever written. The book is so much more detailed than the movie. I love everything southern so this story makes me very happy. Scarlett and Rhett may be the best characters in literature. I look forward to seeing the movie every year.

This book was a lot better than I thought it would be. It sucked me in from the get-go, the setting was very vivid, and I was interested the entire time. I found Scarlett terrible to sympathize with as her attitude was horrendous, but despite that I still found the story riveting all the way through. Seeing her ruin things for herself but also work hard to make things work was part of the interest I had, but in addition to that the characters themselves were quite unique and their relationships with each other were wonderful. Melanie was a great character but Rhett stole the show, making me love him even though he loved the hard to love Scarlett. It was hard to see how their love went through so many twists and turns, especially after how it all ended, but it was still a great book and so perfectly told.

I pick this up and re-read it every few years, and get lost in it every time. Love it - the characters and the setting are painted so vividly with her descriptions.

Gone with the Wind is a novel written by Margaret Mitchell, first published in 1936. The story is set in Clayton County, Georgia, and Atlanta during the American Civil War and Reconstruction era.

What a fascinating book that takes you deep into the heart of the South before the Civil War, during the war and after the devastating events that ravaged the land but not the spirits of these strong willed survivors. Margaret Mitchell has such a descriptive style of writing that you feel a part of the events she describes. It is a huge book to read but well worth the time delving into the past. The movie did justice to the poignant book that the author penned with such passion and honesty. Reading this book is like stepping back in time and having history unfold with a fascinating cast of characters to lead the way.
